Easy DIY Face Scrub

by Emily Carlstrom

We all love a good pamper night and a face scrub is a staple in many of our skincare routines. Unfortunately, the beauty industry generates a lot of waste! Between hair products, skin products and makeup, a lot of plastic is used and ultimately ends up in landfill. A lot of this packaging is not readily recyclable and it has been reported that more than 120 billion units of packaging are produced every year by the beauty industry!

Along with this, the cardboard boxes that enclose our beauty products contribute to the loss of 18 million acres of forest each year. Just as harmful as the packaging, some of the chemicals and unnecessary parabens contained in beauty products are extremely damaging to our planet (not to mention our health as well).

In order to combat this, we love creating our own beauty products from ingredients you can find in your panty! We also love to store these DIY products in reusable glass jars. Here is one of our favourite homemade (and super easy) face scrubs:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbs brown sugar (best for sensitive skin!)
  • ½ tbs olive oil
  • 1 drop lavender essential oil
  • 1 drop lemon essential oil
  • 1 empty glass jar for storage

Method:

For this easy scrub all you have to do is combine each of the ingredients in a bowl, mixing until smooth and well combined. Transfer to your glass jar.

Your scrub can be kept for up to 3 months and we recommend storing in the fridge, especially as the weather warms up.

Now all you need to do is call up your friends for a much needed pamper night! They also make great gifts. Let us know if you give this scrub a go!
